Carbon Team Lead
Our Land & Habitats Business Unit is looking to recruit a Carbon Team Lead. The successful candidate will work as part of the carbon research team to assist in the monitoring of carbon from PCAS bogs, the maintenance and calibration of equipment, the preparation of standard operating procedures, collecting soil and water samples, time series data analysis, geo-spatial analysis, development and deliverable of QA/QC procedures.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:
- Manage and conduct carbon monitoring at a range of bogs under the PCAS and other schemes. This will involve travel to and from the bogs and collecting measurements of greenhouse gases. This will also involve assisting in the calibration and maintenance associated with CO2 flux chambers. The role will involve working closely with stakeholders in Irish Universities to develop methods and also facilitate data transfer where relevant
- Organising and assisting with the calibration and Maintenace of equipment to measure hydro-meteorological variables. This will involve regular site visits, equipment inspections, working with third party suppliers.
- Soil and water sampling. This will involve conducting procurement procedures to obtain equipment and services and working with the carbon team to organise sampling and delivery. The carbon scientist will ber equired to use a peat auger to sample peat and associated transport and packaging methods
- Report and presentations preparation to meet reporting requirements under PCAS and other schemes. Carbon scientist will also be required to assist in the preparation of peer-review articles.
- Assist with timeseries, statistical and geosptial analysis. This will involve using Excel or preferably R Statistical Software Package to analyse carbon fluxes across PCAS sites
- Provide such information and assistance as may be required for the company to fulfil its statutory and legal reporting obligations such as AER’s and for the communication and agreement of bog rehabilitation plans with the Environmental Protection Agency.

- Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives.
The Person:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:
- Level 9+ qualification in Environmental Science/Management or related scientific subject or equivalent.
- Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Experience in remote sensing, arcgis and R or python required
