Garage Manager
Virginia International Logistics are recruiting a Garage Manager for their site at Maghera, Virginia, Co. Cavan. Overview of the Role Reporting to the Managing Director, the Garage Manager is responsible for the service, repairing and testing of company owned trucks and trailers. The business run a fleet of over 130 vehicles and over 400 trailers with a customer base of over 900 companies across Ireland, the UK and Europe This role requires the management of a team of 9 staff which include vehicle mechanics, tyre fitters and apprentices.

Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operation of the garage and control and supervise all the daily and weekly workload including call outs for breakdowns for the smooth running of a busy garage.
- Ensure all trucks and trailers are maintained to a high standard and all service intervals are adhered to.
- Ensure all trucks and trailers are tested annually and all have current CVRT test certificates.
- Ensure all refrigerated trailers have been serviced and calibrated.
- Ensure service, testing and calibration for GDP trailers.
- Ensure all trucks have all their Tachograph’s within calibration.
- Work with fleet manager to ensure that a full-service history is available for every truck and trailer.
- Supervise and manage all garage mechanics, support staff and apprentices, authorise all daily duties, manage clock times, authorise holidays and overtime, oversee staff training needs and requirements and maintain a high standard of work and ensure safe working practices.
- Ensure that invoicing of all work is managed on an ongoing basis with daily and weekly monitoring and approvals.
- Maintain high standards on the garage floor, ensuring that the facility is kept clean, and that equipment and loose tools are stored appropriately in the workshop.
- Work with Health and Safety Manager to ensure that all health and safety policies and procedures are always adhered to by the team.
- Working closely with the Parts Manager and ensure that parts ordering, parts availability, and parts stock are maintained to satisfactory levels on an ongoing basis.
- Communicate with any external repair agencies as necessary.
Person Specification
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in a similar role
- Qualified HCV Mechanic: 5 years (preferred)
- Full, valid driving licence and HGV C licence
- Proven track record in the management of a busy garage, ideally working with fleets upwards of 100 vehicles.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Strong English verbal and written communication
- Ability to lead a team to always deliver work of a high quality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Initiative and good decision-making skills.
- Reliable with a flexible and adaptable approach to work with a positive attitude
